A THIRD DERBY WIN FOR WILLIAM FUNNELL AND CORTAFLEX MONDRIAAN
William Funnell and Cortaflex Mondriaan have joined the elite ranks of three time Hickstead Derby winners adding the 2009 championship to their wins in 2006 and 2008.
Last to go in the international arena they achieved the only clear round of the day and the first clear in the Hickstead Derby for five years, a great achievement for William and his team and their sponsors.
William Funnel is a world-renowned show jumping rider with over 20 years experience at the top of his sport. He has won over 20 International titles and has represented his country all over the world at the highest levels.
He has represented Great Britain on 27 different occasions involving 2 European Champonships and has won over 50 International competitions.
He has had a string of famous horses which have brought him success at all levels in the past. William is known for producing his own horses and won the Fox Hunter Final twice on horses he produced himself, and was the youngest winner at 17 on the first occasion.
His current rides are Cortaflex Amber du Montos, Cortaflex Machiavelli II and Cortaflex Mondriaan and this season Williams major goal is to be on the Great Britain World Championship Team competing in Aachen.
In additon to competing William has developed a successful production program of young homebred horses at his yard, near Ewhurst in Surrey, where his individual philosophy and approach is reaping rewards in producing successful sport horses. In conjunction with the The Billy Stud (Donal Barnwell) and the support of a dedicated team they produce in excess of 40 foals a year from their own mares.
These, along with stock brought in, are brought on and trained by the team and there are always in excess of 100 horses for sale ranging from four year olds to experienced international show jumpers.
